POSITION SUMMARY:

The Technical Designer will manage the product development process for all private label products, including consistency and design input.  This role will require collaboration with the Merchandising team providing techpacks/sketches for quoting, development, fit, production, and quality assurance, while adhering to established standards and timelines.

 

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Serves as main point of contact for vendors and internal departments for specifications of all private label products
  • Works closely with Merchants on developing new styles, fits, trims, and colors for all private label products
  • Uses other resources as needed to gain a technical understanding of the private label products
  • Creates and finalizes all techpacks, including: technical illustrations, fabric/trim details, ISO stitching information, measurements, construction, and label and packing information                                              
  • Reviews products for construction/workmanship and measures all private label garments to ensure accuracy and adherence to the techpack                                                           
  • Leads all fit sessions using assigned fit model to assess fit, proportion, and overall styling of all private label apparel products
  • Resolves discrepancies with specifications or instructions through communication with the vendors or manufacturers, including: detailed comments for each sample which may include pattern corrections, sketches, photos, construction issues and fit comments to vendors
  • Manages consistency of fit across all product categories
  • Organizes and maintain samples
  • Attends product development meetings throughout season as needed
  • Keeps supervisor informed of important developments, potential problems, and related information necessary for effective time management
  • Coordinates and communicates plans and activities with others, as appropriate, to ensure a coordinated work effort and team approach                
  • Performs related work as apparent or assigned

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Apparel Design and Development        
  • 2-4  years of technical design experience
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Understanding of technical terminology
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of vendors, employees and others
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office products     
  • Ability to multi-task and stay organized in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to make good decisions based on knowledge, experience, and judgment that are consistent with established procedures, processes and practices                                

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distant vision and the ability to adjust focus
  • Frequently required to sit, use hands to handle objects                                
  • Frequent wrist and/or hand movement is required
  • Frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms
  • Domestic and international travel may be required
